Small-town sweetheart Britney Spears is busy breaking hearts and winning fans with her record-breaking No.1 album …Baby One More Time and its title track single. And even though she’s merely a teenager, this young lady has been hard at work since childhood, performing in hometown plays, church choirs, off-Broadway productions, national commercials, and even TV’s "The Mickey Mouse Club," where she shared air time with some future members of N’Sync. When she auditioned to join an all-girl singing group a few years back, Spears actually landed a solo gig on Jive Records and the rest is pure pop history. LAUNCH executive editor Dave DiMartino met Spears backstage at Disney World, where she was performing a special concert for some lucky Florida teens. Our leering LAUNCH lensmen did their best to remain respectful—not an easy task, considering the ever-present slate of jail bait running rampant through Walt’s hallowed halls. As our exceedingly professional crew awaited their midnight concert call-time, they were lucky enough to take in some of the local attractions. Too bad production coordinator (and former movie star in his own right) Charlie Heath had to negotiate an equipment rental via cellular phone during the entire tour through Disney’s Haunted Mansion. "Dude, I missed the whole thing," he lamented as the attraction dumped him back out on the sidewalk. "But I got us a great deal on the lights!"
